Q: What documents will I need to bring when I hire a vehicle from Hire Force?
A. When you collect your selected vehicle from us you will need to bring:
- your driving licence
- a recent proof of address such as a utility bill or bank statement or similar
- your national insurance number
On 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence was abolished. The counterpart contained information such as any penalty points you have. Old-style paper licences, issued until 1998, are still valid but these are no longer updated with penalty points. In order to validate your license we will use the tool on the .Gov government website found here.

Q: Do you accept cash only hires?
A. It is now company policy NOT to accept cash only hires, we must take a card payment for either the deposit amount or the hire.
Q: Is there an excess on the vehicle?
A. Yes, the standard excess on our vehicles is £500. This is the maximum a customer is liable for in the event of damage to our vehicle or a 3rd party should an accident or damage occurs. This will double for drivers under the age of 25 or for customers with 6 or more points on their licence.
Q: Are there any restrictions when hiring a van?
A. We may be unable to hire to a customer who has had certain endorsements on their licences. Please note for insurance purposes any points on licences from the last 5 years will be included. Drivers aged 24 or over must have held their licence for a minimum of one year. Drivers under the age of 23 must have held their licence for a minimum of two years. Please do not hesitate to call if any clarification is required.
Q: Are there any restrictions when hiring a minibus?
A. Yes, there are insurance and licence related restrictions when hiring a mini bus, the main restrictions are as follows:
- Drivers must be between 25 and 70 years of age
- Have held a full driving licence for a minimum of two years
Under certain circumstances you may be able to drive without the D1 category see below details:
- The vehicle us used for social purposes by a non-commercials body not for hire or reward
- The driver is aged 25
- The driver has held a car (category B) licence for at least 2 years
- The driver is providing the service on a voluntary basis
- The minibus maximum weight is not more than 3.5 tonnes (or 4.25 including any specialist equipment for the carriage of disabled passengers)
- If the driver is aged 70 or over, is able to meet the health standards for driving a D1 vehicle
Q: When hiring a vehicle from Hire Force can more than person drive the vehicle?
A. You can add additional drivers to your hire providing they meet the age and insurance requirements. There is a charge of £10 per day for each additional driver, they must be present when the vehicle is collected and sign all the appropriate additional driver forms. Each additional driver must present their driving license and ID all as set out above.
Q: In the very unlikely event that my hired vehicle breaks down during the hire is it covered by a national breakdown and recovery organisation?
A. Yes, Hire Force are members of the RAC.
Q: Can I hire a van for Saturday or Sunday only?
A. Yes – Saturday and Sunday hires are available. There is no need to hire for the whole weekend should you only need a single day. The Hire Force team pride ourselves on flexibility and will do our very best to meet your needs.
Q: Do you provide European hire?
A. Yes we do. Please call us for specific European hire rates.
Q: Will I be required to pay a vehicle deposit?
A. Yes, a booking deposit will be required to secure your vehicle.
Q. Can I waiver the vehicle insurance excess?
A. Yes, the insurance excess can be wavered for an extra cost, depending on age of hirer.
Q: Can I hire a sack trolley with the van?
A. We do a limited number of sack trolleys available to hire at the cost of £5 inclusive. These are an invaluable aid for moving white goods and heavy boxes.
